about

All of these recordings took place at Rock Point Provincial Park in 2019. Rock Point is in Lowbanks just near Dunneville, Ontario. It's a place that is very near and dear to me.

My parents had a cottage there when I was growing up (I know basic white dude right?) When they first got it there was no plumbing just an outhouse. Summers we would go to the cottage and even camp at the camp grounds, which was insane cause the cottage was right beside the park. But I guess it gave us the camping experience without having to put in the work/worry. My parents separated and my dad kept the cottage. Slowly, over the years it fell into disrepair. Eventually I started mowing the lawn there and doing simple maintenance. With the help of my girlfriend Tracie we eventually got the place back into at least working order. Many times I would go up and record sounds and work on music and just play VHS (Captain Ron specifically) or just putter about. My father and my relationship has dwindled to something less flattering/favourable for the both of us. So last year at around this time (May 2021) was the last time I was up there. I do miss it dearly.

I love that place. The sound of the waves, the birds chirping its magical and yet haunting. These are some of the sounds I captured. In a time, In a place. I hope you find it as relaxing as I have.

Thanks,
Devin

Just want to give a shout-out to the artist Patricia Wolf, she creates some crazy synth, ambient, field recording, stuff and it's mind blowing. Her album " Life On Smoking Mountain" Which is a wonderful display of field recordings. It is one reason this album exists. Like straight up I copped her style for this cover photo.
